Unlike therapies or exercises, the Alexander Technique teaches people to gradually improve the way they look after themselves in all their waking hours - both in stillness and activity. The teacher uses gentle, hands-on guidance to help the student find a more harmonious relationship of the head, neck, torso and limbs, reducing strain and promoting lightness and freedom of movement. The pupil learns the skill of remaining poised as they go about their day, and regaining poise after episodes of stress or injury. They become increasingly self-reliant, able to use new strategies to do things with greater ease and often, greater enjoyment. As healthy postural support and an overall sense of focus and calm becomes more established, people are more able let go of tensions and unproductive effort they may previously have been unaware of.
Our habitual ways of moving and holding ourselves have an effect on the way we feel and how well we function. Although the Alexander Technique is not a therapy per se, pupils may notice improvements in their general health and well-being. Many rediscover a sense of calm, lightness, relaxation and alertness they have not experienced for many years.
Developed by the Australian Frederick Mathias Alexander over a hundred years ago, the Alexander Technique has helped thousands of people to get more out of life by improving the way they approach the things they do.

Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2 / Coronavirus) Safety Measures:
If you develop symptoms of respiratory infection, or test positive for Covid 19, it is important that you stay at home and reschedule your appointment:
Please cancel by phoning or texting me on 07949 190 595 if within 48 hours of your lesson time. Otherwise, sending me an email to rearrange is fine.
I continue to take reasonable precautions against the transmission of Covid 19 and other respiratory infections in my practice. Where possible, windows are kept open for ventilation during the lesson, and the rooms are aired between lessons. I wash my hands before and after each lesson, and encourage pupils to do the same.
One-to-one Alexander teaching involves close contact, hands-on work. If you would like me to wear a face mask during your lesson, please let me know. You are also welcome to wear one, of course. If you would like me to consider further precautions, please do not hesitate to discuss these with me in advance of the session and I will be very willing to consider them. This is especially important if you are immunocompromised in some way.
Where possible, please try to arrive at the time arranged for your lesson and not before or after. This helps us manage social distancing and ventilation between pupils.
